London based string players - are you looking forward to autumn and getting back to orchestral playing? The Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra is one of London's leading and longest established amateur orchestras playing to a v high standard with our fantastic conductor Christopher Stark. We are a very friendly group and share a lot of good cake! We rehearse on Sundays in Camden for a few weeks before each of our three concerts. Members are talented amateurs of all ages, music students, young professionals, music teachers. Music students do not pay membership fees. Next season has some great music, starting with a concert that includes Beethoven 1 and a beautiful saxophone piece performed by our winning Soloist of the Year Megan Glover Rehearsals start Sept 27th and the concert is at 6.30pm on Oct 25th at St John’s Waterloo. Chorleywood Orchestra is looking for double basses! We rehearse Tuesday evenings in school term times. The programme for our next concert (in November) is Prokofiev Lieutenant Kije Suite, Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6

We have been a mainstay of musical life in north London for more than forty years with around seventy regular players. Under our Musical Director Levon Parikian, CSO seeks to combine the familiar staples of the Classical, Romantic and 20th century repertoire with less well-known and more challenging works. We rehearse on a weekly basis and perform three major orchestral concerts a year. We currently have a vacancy for a tuba player.

We are looking for a permanent double bass player. We don't hold auditions but are looking for an experienced player for this important position.

We always have vacancies for 1st and 2nd violinists. We don't hold auditions.

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at 7:45-9:45 from September to early July. We perform three concerts a year in Middlewich Victoria Hall.

We are a friendly and enthusiastic group of players who meet throughout the year on Thursday evenings to enjoy working through a wide range of classical and light orchestral music. We play different music each week taken from our extensive library and generally don't perform, preferring to play for our own enjoyment.
